FOOD AND DRINK
Good food is at the heart of what we do. Our menu celebrates the best of traditional pub favourites, served with a contemporary twist and made using the finest local produce Yorkshire has to offer. From hearty classics to creative seasonal specials, every dish is freshly prepared and full of flavour.
Behind the bar, you’ll find a well-chosen selection of local ales, quality wines, and a few carefully picked spirits — everything you need for a quiet pint, a relaxed glass with dinner, or a celebratory tipple by the fire.
And on Sundays, we do things properly. Our Sunday Lunch is a true feast — generous portions of tender roast meats, rich gravy, and all the trimmings, with bowls of vegetables served to the table for everyone to share. It’s homely, hearty, and exactly how Sunday should be.

OUR STORY
We’re Johnathon and Ashley — a husband-and-wife team with years of experience in hotels and hospitality, and a shared passion for making people feel at home.
Between us, we’ve run everything from bustling city hotels to cosy countryside retreats, and we’ve poured that experience (and a fair bit of our hearts) into The Downe Arms Inn.
Helping us keep everyone in line is our son Mason — the real landlord if we’re being honest. He may be small, but he’s got big opinions on biscuits, bed-making, and who gets to sit in “his” chair by the fire. For us, this isn’t just a business — it’s our home. And we can’t wait to welcome you to it.
